It is projected that by 2028, the education sector will grow by USD 5.41 billion, creating significant demand for highly qualified professionals. Licensing ensures that teachers meet high competency standards and comply with professional ethics and conduct requirements. These measures help maintain a high level of professionalism among educators and ensure the overall quality of education.

First, candidates must ensure compliance with the following criteria:
→ Higher education. A minimum of a bachelor’s degree (or an equivalent four-year university degree) in the relevant subject area. For example, teaching mathematics requires a degree in mathematics or a closely related discipline. Please note that KHDA carefully verifies the accreditation status of the issuing universities.
→ Professional experience (in some cases). Experience requirements vary depending on the educational level (e.g., primary education, secondary school, higher education institutions).
→ Language proficiency. Most institutions require a high level of proficiency in English. Knowledge of Arabic may be an additional advantage, depending on the institution.

The documentation package includes:
→ A valid UAE residence visa.
→ Notarized and legalized copies of academic diplomas and transcripts
(All academic documents must be officially translated and legalized in accordance with UAE regulations).
→ A criminal record certificate (police clearance certificate), legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the issuing country and the UAE embassy.
→ A medical fitness certificate issued by an accredited medical institution in the UAE.
→ CV and recommendation letters (considered an advantage).

Candidates are required to pass two examinations: a subject specialization exam and a teaching methodology exam. The first exam is usually conducted in April, and the second in September. In case of an unsuccessful attempt, candidates may retake the exam after additional preparation, typically after one month.
 
After successfully passing the examinations and obtaining document approval, candidates are granted a UAE Teaching License. The license is valid for two years and allows employment in both public and private educational institutions across the UAE.
